This blog is for book lovers. Initially this blog focused on the books selected by members of the Okefenokee Book Club who used to meet in Waycross, Georgia. Now, it is about my reading interests. I will also continue to post any interesting information related to writers, libraries, and book clubs in general.

Storyteller Martha Donaldson
It's October, Halloween month. Storyteller Martha Donaldson will be returning to the Okefenokee Regional library on Lee Avenue, courtesy of the Friends of the Library, to tell the story of the "Pea Patch Murders" that took placein Waresboro in 1930. Here is your chance to hear it if you missed it the last time. It will be Thursday, October 27th at 7:00pm. I had fun listening to this fascinating story three years ago at this venue.

Bookclub meeting
We meet today to discuss whatever book we have been reading. I will talk about The Confession by John Grisham, one of the masters of the legal thriller, and The Testimony by Anita Shreve, one of the Queens of storytelling. I enjoyed reading those two books. I am curious to hear what other people read about this past month.
I will be offline for a while. I am on vacation. Keep reading and sharing!

Storytelling
I really like this link about storytelling . It deals with what the writer, Katherine Hansen, calls applied storytelling.
This quote brought back memories: "We don’t just vote for a presidential candidate, we buy into his story of what the future holds." Remember the stories of John McCain and President Barack Obama that were told and retold back in 2008?
Who knew that one could call oneself a "corporate mythologist" to explain one's role in telling the history, philosophy, values, vision of an organization and the stories of the individuals who make up the organization.
Take a look at the table of contents of this book link . Telling your personal story is quite interesting.

Storyteller Martha Donaldson
I found an interesting link to the Pea Patch Murders here. This sounds similar to Martha Donaldson's story.

Storyteller Martha Donaldson
It was a full room at the public library last night as people gathered to hear Mrs. Donaldson relate the story of the Pea Patch Murders that took place in Waresboro in 1930. The story was quite different from what I was expecting. Jim Parker was living with his girlfriend as husband and wife. His wife and baby came to visit then disappeared. He had said that his visitor was a cousin of the "pretend" wife and had returned home to Florida so no one suspected anything.
One day you may get to hear Martha's fascinating story so I will not reveal any more details.

Storyteller Martha Donalson
Storyteller Martha Donaldson will be at the Okefenokee Regional Library in Waycross next Thursday, October 30 at 6:30PM to tell the true story of the Pea Patch Murders in Ware County in the 1930s. I can't find anyone who knows about these murders so I will just have to plan to be with the Friends of the Library next Thursday to find out more.
